Hello.  My name is Paul Kenny and I thought I would let you know a bit about myself. I am originally from the Sunshine Coast, 5th generation from Nambour. Our family were one of the early settlers on the coast and developed the sugar cane industry, sugar mill, etc. in Nambour. I visit the coast 5/6 times a year to visit my parents, family, friends and also to perform piano concerts and of course piano tuning, repairs, etc. for my piano tuning clients.  I did my music studies on the coast and then moved onto further studies at various Universities and Colleges in Australia, London and also the USA.​ You can read more about my music studies, compositions, etc. on my music page (www.PaulKenny.com) or my Facebook Music Fan Page (www.facebook.com/paulkennyofficial)

Piano Restoration

A piano should be tuned at least once every 12 months regardless of the amount of use it has. If you‘re a music teacher or your piano is being used by piano students practicing a few hours a day you’ll probably find your piano may need to be tuned once every 6 months. If you have recently moved the piano or the piano is located in a part of the house which is effected by weather changes it should be tuned each time it is moved or in accordance with the season changes (Summer/Winter - Autumn/Spring). I have some clients who prefer to have their piano tuned twice a year to keep it sounding beautiful throughout the year. ​

Piano Repairs

Piano tuning is not as expensive as you think. The longer your piano exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended tuning requires, the more expensive it will be for you to have your piano tuned. If you want to save more money, after buying your piano have it tuned regularly as required by the manufacturer. Most pianos are required to be tuned at least once a year. ​

I love old pianos and the history behind them. It amazes me how they came out from England, Germany, or other countries​ and who owned them. Imagine all the stories they could tell about family sing-alongs, how many students have practiced on them and the countless hours of musical joy that they have given. I can do a mini-restoration of your old piano and make it sing again. The oldest piano I have restored was made in the late 1700s.  A mini-restoration of your piano will usually be a full days work to bring them back to working order again.  Please contact me to discuss and I can usually give you a quote over the phone.

There are some primary reasons why we need to tune a piano. Remember that the piano is made up of wood.. When humidity rises, the wood swells which affects the quality of sound made by the piano. This is why the piano needs constant tuning and attention.
